Welcome to the Hempfield Bureau of Fire

The Hempfield Fire Service was established in 1918 and over the years has grown to encompass twelve volunteer fire departments. Collectively, the Hempfield Fire Service has more than 200 active members, making it one of the largest volunteer fire services in Pennsylvania.

In 2016, the Hempfield Board of Supervisors created the Hempfield Township Bureau of Fire. The Bureau exists to support the Township’s volunteer firefighter via standardized operating guidelines, recruitment efforts, purchasing, and 100% financial support of firefighting activities.

The Bureau formulates policies & procedures that govern the operations of the member departments. Bureau board members include:

  • Township’s Director of Public Safety (Board Chair)
  • Bureau of Fire Recruitment Officer
  • Bureau of Fire Safety Officer
  • Bureau of Fire Training Officer
  • Township Member-at-Large
  • 2 – Department Fire Chiefs
  • 2 – Firefighters-at-Large

The group meets twice monthly and welcomes feedback.

Overview of Benefits Available to Qualifying WestCoFire Member Fire Departments

The purpose of SAFER grants is to provide funding directly to fire departments and national,
state, local, or tribal organizations representing the interests of volunteer firefighters to assist
them increase the number of firefighters helping communities meet industry minimum standards
and attain 24-hour staffing to provide adequate protection from fire and fire related hazards, and
to fulfill traditional missions of fire departments.
